Acrylic Patch Binder DecoColor MP Classic 920-27

ACRYLIC COLOUR FOR RECREATIONAL SURFACES

1.0 MATERIAL DESCRIPTION

DecoColor MP Classic 920-27 is a full bodied, high performance acrylic latex coating. It is fortified with specially selected fillers and is pigmented in eleven standard colours. Special colours are possible upon request, however minimum quantities do appy. DecoColor MP Classic offers the advantage of using one product for the texture courses and the finish course.

2.0 INTENDED USE

DecoColor MP Classic is intended for use as a texture and/or top coat for recreational surfaces. Job mixing gives the installer the flexibility to meet individual job conditions. The finish texture and speed of play can be modified through the size and amount of sand used in the mix. This product allows the contractor the flexibility to select and add the proper sand to meet specific job requirements.

4.0 SURFACE PREPARATION

4.1 BASE CONSTRUCTION

Surface must meet or exceed the American Sport Builders Association (ASBA) applicable Guidelines. Upgrading and recoating previously colored surfaces requires the surface and base construction to be in sound condition and in compliance with the applicable ASBA Guidelines.

4.2 SUBSTRATE CURE REQUIREMENTS

New hot-mix asphalt surfaces must be allowed 14 days minimum cure time prior to application of Deco products. For new Portland cement concrete surfaces, a minimum of 28 days cure time is required. After 28 days, new concrete must be acid-etched with either phosphoric or muriatic acid. Application may begin thereafter.

4.3 SURFACE CONDITION

The surface on which DecoColor is to be applied must be smooth, free of dirt, loose or flaking paint, only materials or chemical residues, vegetation of any sort and any other debris or foreign matter that may prevent the proper product adhesion. Thoroughly rout existing cracks of dirt, debris and loose impediments. Cracks should be blown clean with an air compressor. Consult the data sheet 64061 Deco Crack Filler for application information.

4.4 SURFACE IMPERFECTION

Before application of primers or Acrylic Resurfacer, the court surface shall be flooded with water and allowed to drain. Any depressions capable of submerging a U.S. five-cent piece after one hour should be marked with chalk, not crayon or a grease pencil. These areas must be allowed to thoroughly dry. Once dried, a patch must be applied to the marked area. For patching products and mix designs, please refer to the product data sheet for Acrylic Patch Binder 920-39.

4.5 PRIMING

Priming of asphalt surfaces is only necessary if existing asphalt is too badly weathered to establish a strong bond with the Acrylic Resurfacer. In the case of extremely oxidized asphalt surfaces, contact your Deco Area Manager. When applying Acrylic Resurfacer to new concrete surfaces, a primer is necessary to improve adhesion. Deco Surfacing Systems offers California Ti-Coat 63903 & amp; 63904, a two-package water based epoxy primer. Consult the respective data sheets for proper application. If the concrete surface has been previously coated with acrylic material, no priming is necessary.

5.0 MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

The following mixes have been found to be satisfactory for average surface conditions:

5.1 TEXTURE COURSE

DecoColor MP Classic 920-27 55 gal - 30 gal.
Clean potable water 27 gal - 15 gal.
Silica Sand (60-90 mesh) 440 lb - 240 lb.
NOTE: For a slower ball bounce and rougher texture, one or more texture courses may be installed in place of the finish course.

5.2 FINISH COURSE

DecoColor MP Classic 920-27 55 gal - 30 gal.
Clean potable water 38 gal - 20 gal.
NOTE: For a slower ball bounce and rougher texture, one or more texture courses may be installed in place of the finish course.

5.3 MIXING

Do not use sand containing clay, silt, ferrous metals or salt. The outcome of the texture course depends heavily on what type of sand you chose. Deco's specifications are based on 60-90 meshsand. Please submit your sand samples to the California Products Research and Development laboratory for analysis and approval before mixing with DecoColor MP Classic. Sand should be slowly added to undiluted MP followed by the addition of water. A mechanical mixer is recommended and mixture should be stirred until homogeneous. Periodic mixing should take place as the job progresses to ensure consistent application.

6.0 GUIDE TO APPLICATION

6.1 SYSTEM RECOMMENDATION

Two (2) texture course applications and one (1) finish course has proven to give excellent performance results. Deco recommends the use of Acrylic Resurfacer 920-29 prior to the application of DecoColor. See the data sheet on Acrylic Resurfacer for more information.

6.2 INSTALLATION

Using a flexible rubber squeegee, 50 or 70 durometer, apply DecoColor MP Mix parallel to one of the sides of the area to be coated. Care should be taken not to leave ridges where adjoining applications overlap. Applications in hot conditions are improved by keeping surface damp with a fine mist water spray. No pooling should be allowed. Additional applications should be installed at 90 to the previous application.

6.3 DRYING AND CURE TIME

DecoColor MP must be allowed to dry for 4 hours between coating applications. Completed projects should be allowed 24 hours before releasing to play.

7.0 COVERAGE

Based on size, depth and texture of area to be patched.

7.1 TEXTURE COURSE

The undiluted coverage rate is approximately 0.05 gallons per square yard, per application (180 square feet per gallon).

7.2 FINISH COURSE

The undiluted coverage rate is approximately 0.04 gallons per square yard, per application (225 square feet per gallon).

8.0 CLEAN-UP

All equipment can be cleaned with water if clean-up occurs immediately after application.

9.0 LIMITATIONS

9.1 SURFACE LIMITATIONS

DecoColor MP is limited to application on hot-mix asphalt and concrete recreational surfaces. Please see Deco installations guidelines from new and existing asphalt and concrete surfaces for more information. Deco Surfacing Systems does not recommend, nor authorize the application of DecoColor MP on any other surfaces without prior approval from your Deco Area Manager.

9.2 WEATHER LIMITATIONS

No part of the construction involving the Deco Surfacing System should be conducted during rainfall, or when rainfall is imminent. The air temperature must be at least 60ºF and rising. Do not apply when surface temperature is above 140ºF.

9.3 DO NOT OVER DILUTE

The maximum dilution ratio for the Texture Course is two (2) parts DecoColor to one (1) part water. The maximum dilution ratio for the Finish Course is three (3) parts DecoColor to two (2) parts water. Over dilution will cause streaking, foaming, adhesion failure, sand fall-out and poor overall durability of the coating.

9.4 INDOOR APPLICATION DRYING

Drying times are retarded by high humidity, cool temperatures or lack of air movement. This is particularly important to note when installing indoors, where all three factors are often very pronounced.

9.5 KEEP FROM FREEZING

DecoColor MP 920-27 is a water-based acrylic system and it must be kept from freezing during storage or in transit. If you receive product you suspect may have been exposed to freezing temperatures, consult your Deco Surfacing Systems Representative for proper handling instructions.
